21-4 with Gallade & Empoleon Core

We had a crazy stream this past Tuesday with me going on a 15-0 winning streak and finishing the night off with a record of 21-4. Today we'll be running through the team as I aim to offer some additional insight. If you want to see the stream then head over to our YouTube Channel for the full stream and if you want to see us live then follow us Twitch. Credit to Zyonik who came up this team and like always we'll be using PvPoke.com for all of the data used in this article.

What I like the most about this team is how it functions as a three piece core. Empoleon is weak to Grass types like Venusaur which both Dragonite and Gallade cover. Fighting types can counter Empoleon but again, Gallade and Dragonite have us covered. Dragonite has to worry about Ice types like Lapras, thankfully Empoleon and Gallade can protect it. Another aspect that makes this team attractive is that it picks apart the very popular core of Swampert and Venusaur. We were fortunate to frequently run into this team during the stream and we can handle this pairing no matter who leads. If Swampert leads then we can win the match up if we shield the Earthquake on our Empoleon. If Venusaur on the lead then we can switch into Gallade to get ahead on energy. If they switch out then we can realign Venusaur to our Dragonite later on. Like I said we were very Lucky with how often we fought against this core and you can see how easily this team picks it apart. Even though XL Pokémon are getting all of the hype, remember that Venusaur and Swampert are still very good in this meta and this team thrives against them. We also learned that this team has some weaknesses, and we saw this play out on stream. Snorlax is the thick daddy of Ultra League, and this bulk can be difficult for Dragonite to push through. Landing Hurricane isn't enough to get the K.O. and Body Slam spam will take us out if shields are down. Gallade is our only answer to Snorlax and not even a clean one. The Snorlax can very easily burn shields on Close Combat with plenty of health to take them through the late game. The other obstacle for this team are Electric types such as Electivire and Magnezone. Electivire can outpace our entire team with Wild Charge and Ice Punch, but Electivire isn't a super popular threat in the meta. Magnezone however is a very strong pick and will be popular the higher you climb in the ranks. If Magnezone is popping up like crazy in the meta then you might need to put this team on the back burner and adjust accordingly. Those are my thoughts after playing with the team that went 21-4 on our Tuesday stream.
