This week we saw the Flying Cup get postponed for a second time, due to terrible lag issues in the Go Battle League. Pokemon Go has been experiencing issues across the board recently, most notably in the raids. The latest update is when the problems really became noticeable. In this article, we will discuss the current bugs in Pokemon Go and I will offer some advice on how we as players can deal with them, and what Niantic could do to mend the situation.
The Raids
Mega Evolutions have been an interesting addition to the game, but are possibly responsible for the problems we've been having. Pokemon Go in general has a growing pain period when new systems are introduced. Although raiding is an established system, it did however get completely redone and introduced a new tier. From the premier balls getting stuck on the screen, to getting kicked out of the raid randomly, or to have friends struggle just to get into the lobby; raids aren't running as smoothly as they should be. Raiding is an important part of the game and is the part of the game where players invest most of their money. Niantic's customer service is great and players are often compensated, but they need to stop us from getting there in the first place. I understand that Niantic is constantly moving the game forward but perhaps Niantic needs to slow down a bit. If the introduction of Megas is too much for the game to handle then maybe take them out for a bit. This way players can enjoy the rest of the tier raids and Niantic can focus a lot of resources into solving this problem. As of right now all we can do as Trainers is to be efficient when raiding. If you have people struggling to enter the lobby, then make sure you have plenty of time left in the raid. Don't go into a raid that expires in a couple of minutes. I've experienced being kicked out of a raid but have unable to get make it because the raid no longer exists. If the ball gets stuck on the screen give yourself the ability to back out and reenter it. It's unfortunate that these problems exist, but it is important to do whatever we can to work around them.
Go Battle League
The Go Battle League lagging out to this extent drastically affects content creators. It leads to lesser quality for viewers when an important moment in the battle gets blown out because of lag. From fast moves working at half the speed, charge moves struggle to fire off or to do damage, and weak connection errors bring the game to a standstill. The Flying Cup as well as other events getting postponed is troubling as well. Team building videos and articles get made, and time is set aside for streaming. We personally invested a lot of resources into Pokemon to use for the Cup in hope of streaming it. Postponing is incredibly frustrating as a content creator or player who invested resources real or virtual. For the benefit of everyone, Niantic should consider postponing the entire Season of the Go Battle League and work urgently on fixing it. Niantic has postponed seasons before and resumed with a new schedule once the lag issues where solved. The would greatly benefit us players by giving us a break from a frustrating situation that we have no control over.
Niantic is doing an outstanding job at constantly taking Pokemon Go to the next level. However, it may be best to slow down every once in a while to make sure everything is at its best quality. Players can't be expected to get excited about new things when the things we already have don't work. Let this be a message to Niantic saying that it is okay to slow down from time to time, and also for players to take a little break when Niantic needs time to figure things out. This article is not to complain about Niantic and Pokemon Go. We all love this game and it is important to address problems like this constructively.
With that said we have addressed some of the issues in the game and hopefully Niantic will get things solved quickly.
