Atraxa Superfriends EDH Guide

Writer: Dakota RicciDakota Ricci

Atraxa, Praetor's Voice took the EDH world by storm back when Commander 2016 was released. Superfriends became the most represented archetype in the format and remained in that position for quite some time. In the years since, we have seen plenty of other powerful Commanders get printed, but Atraxa is still among the most popular options. Today, we'll be going through Sue Ann's EDH deck to see how this pile of Planeswalker cards function. We'll be going through a few of the key categories, so if you want to see the fullest explanation then head over to our YouTube Channel. Infinite Turns

As we said in our Scarab God EDH Guide, every deck in our playgroup has at least one way to win the game on the spot. Before Kaldheim spoilers started, the deck had pseudo combos that generally consisted of hitting the ultimate on multiple planeswalkers in a turn to pretty much win the game on the spot. Although that is still a viable option (one that still happens often), we now have a way to gain infinite turns thanks to Kaya, the Inexorable from the new set Kaldheim. Kaya will generally see play in Commander with the -3 ability acting as a sorcery speed Utter End but the ultimate ability is what we're getting excited about. The -7 ability gives us an emblem that says "At the beginning of your upkeep you may cast a legendary spell from your hand, from your graveyard, or from among cards you own in exile without paying its mana cost." This means if we have Karn's Temporal Sundering we get infinite turns by casting it on our upkeep turn after turn in an endless cycle of value. Getting infinite turns doesn't win the game outright, but your opponents are likely to scoop once they accept that they will not be getting another turn.

Key Cards

The deck is running 18 Planeswalkers so we have tons of removal to help keep them safe on an empty board. We act kind of like a control deck since we're loaded with so much interaction. To pop off the ultimate abilities on these Planeswalkers we have a majority of the cards focused on supporting our Planeswalking cast. Rings of Brightheart and Doubling Season are the best examples, but we're also playing most of the oaths, and we have prison effects to make attacking difficult for the opponent. Our sweepers are very important as well, as our Planeswalkers do their best when the board is empty and they're not being threatened. Make sure to check out our full video guide over on our YouTube channel, and give us a subscribe. Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed the deck. We're aiming to get some tabletop gameplay in the new year. Join the Discord to discuss Kaldheim spoiler season and follow us on Instagram to stay up to date with everything we're doing.
