The Catch Cup has had plenty of Trainers disappointed with the idea of needing to power up Pokémon they already have, or having to dump stardust into useless Pokémon for temporary use. I'm actually pretty excited to use this Cup as an opportunity to utilize Pokémon I wouldn't normally use, and Niantic has put a variety of useful Pokémon in Spotlight Hour and other events. Today we'll be going through a list of powerful Pokémon featured in events throughout Season 5, and I'll aim to offer you some ideas for potential teams. Overall, this Cup should be a lot of fun with people running whatever high ranked Pokémon they may have encountered.
As you can see we've had plenty of exciting Pokemon available to us in events and raids. Most of the Pokemon on this list are viable options in the open Great League and the rest could hold their own given the right team. We'll be making three teams that utilize a unique combination of these Pokemon. Team 1
This team looks very promising and uses Whiscash which is a very powerful Pokemon in the Great League. Mud Shot and Mud Bomb is very spammy and will burn shields if the opponent stays, and tries to win switch advantage. Blizzard is a total nuke and will one shot most things that don't resist it. Magmortar covers the Grass types that threaten Whiscash and puts out a lot of damage with Fire Spin and Fire Punch. Thunderbolt is the newly acquired Comm Day move and offers coverage against Water types. Wigglytuff is a powerful Charm user and will be deadly if the opponent comes in with a neutral Pokemon. Ice Beam is solid coverage and Play Rough hits very hard, and will get s shield. Magmortar can take advantage of a Steel type counter swapping into Wigglytuff which gives the team multiple levels of support and coverage. Whiscash and Wigglytuff are important players in the open Great League and will make great additions to your PvP roster. Team 2
Alolan Raichu is very deadly and can be used in multiple ways. We're being conservative with putting ours on the lead with Grass Knot and Thunder Punch. Wild Charge is what makes it a deadly closer, as you can throw multiple of them to play around the defense debuff. Grass Knot is to cover Whiscash which I would expect to see lots of play, and Thunder Punch as our energy-efficient Electric move. Volt Switch hits very hard and charges moves at a disgusting pace. The combination of high energy generation and efficient charge moves is what makes Alolan Raichu so good in the Great League. Cradily is a spicy pick but it does have an interesting typing and move set. It covers Whiscash as a Grass and Rock type and has Bullet Seed to generate lots of energy for quick Grass Knot attacks. Stone Edge is a hard-hitting move that helps us have some extra coverage. Alolan Sandslash is our safe switch and generates tons of energy with Powder Snow to throw efficient charge moves like Ice Punch and Bulldoze. What I like about this team is that all three members have fast moves that produce energy very quickly and they have efficient charge moves. Team 3
This team is very good at spiking Charm users like Wigglytuff. Like Whiscash I expect Wigglytuff to see lots of play because of the Spotlight Hour. Golbat and Nidoqueen go after it aggressively as Poison types. For our lead, we have a Razor Leaf Whimsicott to catch Whiscash but you could run it as a Charm user. Nidoqueen us our swap and covers fire types that beat Whimsicott. Earth Power and Stone Edge offer some decent coverage. Golbat is a sweet option in the Great League as a closer. Shadow Ball is a great closing move once shields are down, which we have spoken about in plenty of past articles.
