Electivire & Flamethrower in Go Battle League.

Writer: Dakota RicciDakota Ricci

Electivire is a spicy pick for the Ultra and Master Premier Cups in Go Battle League that does see consistent play. It has access to one of the best Electric fast moves for generating energy in Thunder Shock, and has Wild Charge which hits extremely hard to close out the game once shields are down. Ice Punch is the coverage move of choice which is good for shield baiting, and hits things like Dragonite and Togekiss. Ice Punch also helps against something like Venusaur that resist all of the Electric moves. As Electabuzz Community Day draws near we will be heading to PvPoke.com to see how Electivire with Flamethrower does against the meta, and to see how important it will be for us to get one this weekend. For simplicity, we'll just be focusing on those Premier Cups where Electivire is best suited

VS. Ultra Premier Meta

Left is Ice Punch - Right is Flamethrower

As we can see, Flamethrower does help Electivire in some situations. We get a slightly better match up against Machamp, Sirfetched, and Escavalier. Swampert beats Electivire regardless and Honchkrow gets smacked all day every day. We also have a better match up against Magnezone which is to be expected because of the Steel typing. Hopefully, we see that same interaction with Metagross in the Master League. All in all, things are looking pretty good for Flamethrower Electivire and it seems worth it to evolve a good PvP IV Electabuzz during Community Day.

From what we see here, it looks like we have some interesting interactions. Firstly, our Metagross match up stays about the same. Metagross does have Earthquake to cover Electivire and it looks like Flamethrower isn't quick enough to pressure in a meaningful way. After simulating the match up, Metagross wins in the 1 shield by outpacing with Meteor Mash and wins the no shields by tanking a Flamethrower and hitting an Earthquake, that is if you're both coming into the match up at full health. Electivire does win the two shields and can win with shield advantage by hitting back to back Wild Charges.

Things don't get much better unfortunately with our Dragonite match up staying about the same but we do get weaker against Garchomp if we don't have Ice Punch. We still beat Togekiss and completely murk Gyarados with our Electric moves. We do get a little better against Mamoswine, but we lose out to Magnezone which is interesting. I suspect that Ice Punch is crucial for shield baiting and that the match up comes down to Wild Charges from both sides. Other than those, all of the other important matches stay the same with us only getting better against Heracross and Escavalier, and funny enough we win the Electivire mirror with Flamethrower.

Overall I would say to get a good PvP IV Electivire for the Ultra Premier Cup and if you end up getting that hundo you might want Ice Punch over Flamethrower if you're looking to take it into the Master League.
