As we wrap up with the holiday season, we are being gifted with the Holiday Cup in the Go Battle League. This unique league is only allowing Normal, Grass, Electric, Ice, Flying, and Ghost types. The Holiday Cup will run from Monday, December 28, 2020, to Monday, January 4, 2021, and we'll have the Master League running alongside this event. If you don't have the resources to compete in the more expensive Master League then you can enjoy the Holiday Cup. Additionally, many of the top Pokemon in this meta are very powerful options for the open Great League, which means that most of these Pokemon are great investments. Like always all of the data used for the mean building came from PvPoke.com. Today we'll be going through three teams to help give you some ideas for early teams. The first two are very powerful but are pretty cookie cutter. They utilize staples of the open Great League so you're likely to already have these mons, and if you don't they'll be great to invest in. Our third team will also be competitive but will have some spice. This meta is looking fantastic and I'm expecting it to be just as fun as the beloved Halloween Cup. Team 1
Altaria is set up to be an absolute monster in this meta. It aggressively counters all of the Grass types and walls the Counter users. However, Altaria has tons of weaknesses from the Rock types, Ice types, and the Charmers. Another key match up for Altaria is Alolan Marowak which is a versatile Pokemon that has fantastic coverage on the meta. When building our core we decided to pair Altaria with Magnezone. These make a fantastic pairing as Magnezone covers all of the Charmers and Ice types that will delete Altaria, while Altaria takes out the Grass types and Counter users that wall Magnezone. For our safe switch, we're going with Vigoroth. It is one of the best safe switch options in the open Great League and is the best option for the Holiday Cup. The normal typing gives it plenty of neutral matches and Counter into Body Slam spam puts out a lot of pressure. Team 2
Another fantastic core is Alolan Marowak and Altaria. Alolan Marowak is great at covering those Ice types, while also handling any Grass types and Steel types. Marowak needs to look out for the Rock types such as Graveler, and has trouble with Dark types, and potentially other Ghosts. Alolan Marowak is incredibly useful in the open Great League and will make a great addition to your Go Battle League roster. Again, we have Vigoroth on the safe switch which is nice as the Counter does help against the Rock types that beat our first two team members. Team 3
Talonflame is a newcomer from Generation 6 and could have a chance to shine in the Holiday Cup. In open Great League it does struggle as a Fire and Flying type and in most cases is a worse Charizard. In this meta, Talonflame will be at its best by catching Grass types and Charmers on the lead. It will get completely deleted by Rock types such as Graveler or even shadow Aerodactyl that people might actually play. Like with Altaria we're pairing our flier with Magnezone to cover water types like Lapras and Dewgong, or even a Mantine. This pairing really hates on Charm users which is nice if you're worried about that. Munchlax is another solid safe switch option and is very underrated in the open Great League. Snorlax sees tons of play in these kinds of cups but I think if you have a Munchlax then consider running that. After all, it only costs 10k stardust for the second move instead of the 75k for Snorlax. Thanks so much for reading and I hope these teams were of some use as you prepare for the Holiday Cup. I'm personally very excited about this meta and I think it will be just enjoyable as the Halloween Cup. Follow us on Twitch to see these teams in action as we and check out our YouTube channel for some more gameplay. Lastly, jump in our Discord where you can chat with us about any teams you're thinking of running or anything else Pokemon Go related. Thanks again for reading and joining the Fellowship, good luck in your Holiday Cup battles!
