A new month means new brews and today we're bringing you the third episode of No Rares Needed. This is the monthly series we do to provide the community with alternatives for when you're short on Wild Cards, which is all of the time. Today we'll be looking at a Mono-White Auras deck. Imagine a heroic deck with cheap auras and protection, just minus the heroic creatures. We play a bunch of one-drops with built in evasion, slap some enchantments, and protect it as we swing for lethal. Before we take a deep dive into the list I just ask that you check out the video above so you can see the gameplay, and it helps out our YouTube Channel. As always a deck list will be at the bottom of the article
Getting chump blocked sucks for this deck as dragging into the late game is not on our agenda. To avoid the board stalling out we have tons of creatures with built in forms of evasion. Beloved Princess is very effective in a meta full of huge green creatures as it is essentially unblockable. Lifelink helps us stay ahead on life and prevents the opponent from racing us. Gingerbrute is the all-star of the deck and is our most ideal beater. Being able to pay one mana to make it so that it can't be blocked except by creatures with haste means that this cookie is never getting blocked. Mone Red will be able to chump block it with creatures like Fervent Champion and Hall Monitor but they won't be able to keep that up forever. Plus you never know when the sacrifice ability could save you against a lethal Stomp to the face. Lastly we have Battlefield Raptor and Faerie Guidemother as our flying threats. Battlefield Raptor can dominate the board on both offense and defense with first strike and we have ways to give it vigilance. Originally we had Usher of the Fallen for early aggro so we could make tokens, but after getting clowned on by Matt as he saw an opponent chump block me for eternity while racing me with an Immersturm Predator, we decided to make sure all of our creatures had some sort of evasion to stop any form of stalling.
So you have your threat down but now you need to make it thicc. All That Glitters is our powerhouse as it counts all of our artifact and enchantments to create an absolute monster and the deck has a ton of auras to pump this. Not to mention that creatures like Alsied of Life's Bounty and Gingerbrute also add to our count. Sentinel's Eye lets us play defense and offense by granting vigilance and the escape ability helps us rebuild if our main threat goes down. Valor of the Worthy also helps us rebuilt by leaving behind a 1/1 flying spirit for us to start enchanting. To finish off this aura package we have a singleton copy of Spectral Steel. On rate it is a fine card giving us +2/+2 for two mana, but the activated ability lets us use it from the graveyard to recur another aura like All That Glitters. This will help us rebuilt and is most often just nice value from the graveyard.
Now that you have your stacked Loved Princess and the opponent is searching for answers, your main priority is have ways to protect your win condition. The deck fits together like a puzzle with us needing a mix of creatures, auras, and protection spells. We're running fourteen protection spells total which should insolate you from the harsh removal environment currently in Standard. Alseid of Life's Bounty and Selfless Savior are both creatures that carry their own forms of protection. Selfless Savior is the goodest of boys by sacrificing itself to give another creature indestructible. Heartless Act, Eliminate, Stomp, and Frost Bite are all commonly played and you can save your threat from Doomskar. Alseid of Life's Bounty grants protection which will also protect you from targeted removal but is weak to sweepers. Gaining protection from a color can also be used offensively to push through blockers that share a color. Lifelink also means that it is can be a solid back up threat against Mono Red decks where you life total really matters. Karametra's Blessing is amazing in the deck as a +2/+2 pump spell but it can also grant hexproof and indestructible if the creature is enchanted or is an enchantment. This works well with Alseid or any creature once it is wearing an aura. Finally we have Feat of Resistance as another way to grant protection from a color and it puts a +1/+1 counter on our creature.
Like I said this deck reminds me of a heroic style of deck as we're just trying to make a huge evasive threat and then do our best to keep it alive. The deck is pretty strong and works well enough to get you through platinum. So if you want a fun and interesting deck that needs no rare wild cards then considering giving this deck, or any of the other decks in this series a try.
