Pokemon Go Great League Shadow Teams

Updated: Nov 10, 2020

We've all been there before. You're on a roll, about to sweep your set, and then it happens. A triple shadow team comes along and completely shreds your Pokemon with the spiciest team you've ever had the pleasure of losing to. With the recent Rocket Takeovers, shadow Pokemon have become more available to the average player and can lose Frustration.

Today we'll be going through some triple shadow teams so that you too can know what it's like to wield such spice and power in the Great League. I would like to mention before we get into it that not every shadow team needs to be triple shadow. A lot of players have had success by having mixed teams. The goal for us here is to reach maximum levels of spice, even if the teams become just a little bit gimmicky.

Team One

As is to be expected with the shadow Pokemon, the bulkiness of these teams is very poor. Shadow Pokemon hit harder but they also take extra damage so a common strategy is to rely on powerful fast moves. Charm, Counter, and Razor Leaf are some of the most powerful fast moves in the game. That is why the team puts out tons of consistent damage. Gardevoir can absolutely destroy most Pokemon in the league with Charm damage. Machamp helps cover the steels that come in to stop Gardevoir with Counter and Cross Chop. Victreebel is a decent safe switch option and can be one of the most oppressive Pokemon in the league if unanswered. Gardevoir is also deadly late game if it has the energy and time to start landing Shadow Balls when shields are down. The team does struggle with fliers by having both Machamp and Victreebel in the back. Altaria can be taken out by Gardevoir pretty easily but Skarmory is a major threat. Arcanine in the back is an option I have considered. Snarl charges Wild Charge very quickly and is a fantastic closing option.

Team Two

This team is slightly bulkier, but just slightly. Beedrill can take out Azumarill with Poison Jab and beats Umbreon and Scrafty easily with X-Scissor. Lapras covers the fliers and fire types that threaten Beedrill and can take out Azumarill and Umbreon with raw damage with Surf and Skull Bash. Hypno is a solid safe switch with Confusion damage and can get shields with Thunder Punch and it has a lot of neutral match ups because of the psychic typing. Shadow Ball is devastating once shields are down and will finish the game. Steel types are a problem for this team so you could run either Fire Punch or Focus Blast on Hypno to help cover that.

Team Three

This team would be super squishy even if it wasn't all shadow Pokemon, but given the right match ups this team can be very deadly. Fire Spin and Dragon Claw spam from Charizard gets shields quickly and Blast Burn will blow a hole through most things. Shiftry is our cover against water types and Rock Slide users such as Galarian Stunfisk. Shiftry can take over the game if ahead on energy by spamming Leaf Blades like crazy, which will either demand shields or run away with the game. Shielding at the right time is crucial for this team and to me, it all boils down to how well we protect Shiftry in most match ups. Golbat is a strong closer with Wing Attack and Shadow Ball and has Poison Fang if we need to shield bait. Shadow Ball is deadly in the late game and even on the safe switch. It will flip match ups if your opponent doesn't respect it.

Shadow Pokemon are a lot of fun and are super powerful. The Rocket Takeovers have been some of my favorite events this year and being able to TM away Frustration really helps these Pokemon become more playable. I hope this article was interesting and perhaps encouraged you to make some teams utilizing Shadow Pokemon. There are a ton of options that we didn't cover today such as legendary Pokemon such as Articuno or Raikou which are extremely powerful. Leave a comment on the article with what shadow Pokemon you enjoy playing or would think about playing in the future.
